Appreciation, Understanding and Education of Small Animals

The Unique of StoryBooks

Once in awhile something neat come's along. Here is where you can see them.

dpp

I've had Opal "ABC Opal" for awhile as I just wanted a dpp for a pet and my own enjoyment for awhile. I'm so happy too as Opal is a Lilac and I LOVE Purple. Purple, Black and Silver"white" are my three favorite colors.

Opal -dpp Lilac

I've placed Opal with several dpp carrying gerbils in hopes of producing another Opal. I'm not into trying to make them either so Opal kinda hung out for awhile and so did his pups as they lived in their own same sex tanks. Well arounf April -09- I decided to just place a pair together,

MoonStone "mottled Lilac Eef" & Graffiti "Mottled Black"

MoonStone's Parents are Opal and Ocale "a Red Eyed Schimmel"

Graffiti is a Black Mottle from a BWC dpp line.

BOOM!!!! Baby Lord BlkStone :Onyx" was born..

 Blue Blue I ♥ U

This mutation just popped up in a group of laboratory gerbils (grey agouti) at the university of Osnabrueck, Germany. Probably somewhere at the end of 1997. The UK also has many of the dilute mutations and has been working hard with
out-crossing , yet many are inbred. Thanks to Libby and other AGS members they where able to safely import these blue gerbils safely over from Finland.

Introducing Blue Velvet. We adopted her from Libby at Shasheen River Gerbils. The AGS has many plans with these new Blue gerbils and I'm so proud to be part of their little projects. Velvet is paired with Maloo and they have been courting. I hope soon to see some little Blue out-crosses pop up. I will then pair a male from this litter to a Lilac carrying dilute we also adopted from Donna ABC Gerbils.

Here is an interesting page on the US Blue Gerbils.

.

Right now our Blue are not the clear Pewter blue coloring as it's going to take some time to produce a nice line of strong blue gerbils. Blue does come in many shades because of it's melanosomes.

Maloo is a Nutmeg and Velvet is the Chcocolate "Blue" looking gerbil.
